Recently, as the wastewater load has increased, some filamental bacteria have appeared in the aerobic tank; moreover, a thick layer of sludge is floating in the aerobic sedimentation tank. Could you advise on how to deal with this situation?
It may be that as the sewage load increases and there is an abundance of food, the microorganisms in the activated sludge grow more rapidly, resulting in a faster removal rate of organic pollutants; however, the settling capacity of the activated sludge at this time may be poor
It should be a manifestation of sludge bulking. If the dissolved oxygen level is below 1, and the sludge appears dark in color with poor sedimentation, a small amount of sodium hypochlorite disinfectant can be used for spraying purposes. Reducing the water inflow, increasing the recirculation to the secondary sedimentation tank, and raising the sludge discharge volume will help restore normal conditions within a week.
