Urgent! Originally, methanol flowed directly from the tower into the air cooler (there were no valves on the inlet pipelines of the air coolers). Now, a gate valve has been installed at the beginning of each air cooler’s inlet pipeline. What is the purpose of these gate valves, and what is their relationship to the load?
Is it for isolating operations or for maintenance without shutting down production? Point 6(1)4 of Chapter 23 in Volume 2 of the fourth edition of the \"Chemical Process Design Manual\" states that \"cut-off valves are generally not installed on the inlet and outlet pipelines of air coolers.\" For operations that require isolation or maintenance without shutting down the production process, isolation valves, purging devices, and vent valves should be installed on their inlet and outlet pipelines”
It is probably used to adjust the flow rate in order to prevent flow deviation
