I would like to ask the teacher: we have the qualification for manufacturing pressure vessels, and our daily production equipment consists mainly of conventional equipment (such as open-type equipment that is not under pressure). How should we handle the welding qualification assessments for such conventional equipment? Can we simply use the standards for pressure vessel welding assessments as a reference?
The standard for ordinary atmospheric pressure vessels is NB/T 47003.1-2009; this standard specifies that the welding of the main welds must be carried out in accordance with the welding procedure qualification requirements for pressure vessels, and welders must also possess the appropriate qualifications as required by those standards.
During the welding of conventional equipment, carbon dioxide gas shielded welding is used for thin sheets; however, it is not employed in the weld evaluation of pressure vessels. In such a case, is it necessary to conduct a new weld evaluation, and which standards should be used for that evaluation?
I’ve always wondered why CO2 gas shielded welding can be used for long-distance pipelines, but not for pressure vessels. Could this approach be tried in China?
Atmospheric pressure equipment does not require weld procedure qualification. If necessary, it can be carried out in accordance with NB/T47014.
