I have a simple question: I’m not quite sure how to proceed when it comes to replacing entire units such as towers. Since the equipment’s base plates and the concrete are cast together, how can the equipment be removed? The original foot bolts and foundation still need to be reused: remove the nuts from the foot bolts, lift the equipment using a crane, and then break away the secondary grouting layer? During lifting, first remove the nut, then take off the shims on the cover plate; this way, the anchor bolts will not be damaged, provided that extreme care is taken.
The equipment foundation slab is poured together with the concrete; how should this be dealt with?
Acting in a way that defies common sense inevitably comes at a cost; one of the two things will surely be damaged – you can’t have both the fish and the bear’s paws.
A finishing layer is usually applied on top of the base slab, which is then smoothed out manually a second time. It can be knocked off without affecting the positioning of the foundation bolts. Grind off the cover plate; when lifting the equipment, be careful to protect the bolt threads – just use the old bolts.
