Steam heating of circulating cold water: A shell-and-tube steam heater is used to heat 1 m3 of cold water to 50°C; the initial heating period lasts 30 minutes, with a pump flow rate of 3.7 m3/h. I calculated that the number of circulation cycles is 1.85 – is this correct? I hope everyone can help me calculate the heating area; I’m not very good at it. Thank you! !

Just calculate it based on thermal equilibrium, and then add a 50% margin – that should be fine. Look up the thermodynamic data in the manual; you can do the calculations using a calculator
For the poster’s setup, it might not be necessary to use a heat exchanger; steam can be directly introduced into the water for heating. This approach is cost-effective and efficient, and no special equipment is required.
