I remember that rainy season, when the storms raged on for an entire day; water flooded the factory area, reaching up to the knees in the deepest parts. They called during production to say that one flow meter was not showing any readings. Master Huang led us to the site, removed the protective bag from the flow meter, and found that its aluminum alloy casing had suffered extensive corrosion due to prolonged exposure to ammonium chloride, compounded by recent heavy rain that further penetrated it. Small fragments of metal had also fallen onto the internal circuit boards, making the cause of the failure obvious. If a brand new flow meter is installed, the plant must be shut down for replacement, which will certainly affect production. After careful inspection, Master Huang found that although there were fragments on the circuit board, the key issue was a broken signal wire. He carefully removed the affected module from its original location, cleaned and dried it, then reconnected the broken signal wire. He obtained a suitable casing from a flow meter of the same model in the workshop’s waste storage, and after some effort, he managed to get the flow meter back into operation. That afternoon, we received another call from production saying that the packaging scale was not working at that time. We found in the past that it was a problem with the central control box. Under normal circumstances, one would simply go to the warehouse to get a new one and replace it, then send the faulty control box back to the manufacturer for repair. Unfortunately, continuous heavy rain caused the operation room in the packaging area to become severely damp, resulting in successive failures of the central control boxes; before those faulty units could even be sent for repair, there were no spare parts available in the warehouse. Since it would affect production, Master Wang from the workshop immediately called the manufacturer to ask if there was any emergency solution; we planned to consult them over the phone and repair the control box ourselves. The manufacturer ended the call with some half-hearted excuses, claiming that they couldn’t see the specific situation. Distant water cannot put out a nearby fire; despite it being nearly time to leave work, Master Wang promptly opened the control box to check whether there were any obvious signs of damage to the components on the circuit board… It wasn’t until the next day that I heard from the team leader that Master Wang had used another faulty central controller circuit board for comparison in order to determine that the problem lay with a certain integrated circuit. He worked until 10 p.m. before managing to fix the faulty packaging scale. Although it can be explained in just a couple of sentences, this process clearly cannot be summarized that way; it requires not only a solid foundation in electrical and electronic principles but also excellent skills in making judgments and solving problems. The successful resolution of these two incidents not only ensured the stable operation of production but also saved the factory tens of thousands of yuan in equipment costs. I greatly admire the seasoned workers’ extensive experience in their work; this is the result of consistent effort over time, and they serve as role models for me to learn from.
