Could some expert tell me what levels of mechanical impurities and water content in the crankcase lubricant of a plunger pump are considered to be excessive? ? ? Are the standards for lubricating oil the same for compressors and pumps? ? ?
For ordinary lubricants, the presence of water is considered a trace amount in the analysis parameters; in other words, water is not allowed to be present at all!
There is a standard for the moisture content in lubricants; you can check it according to the model of lubricant you are using. If the level of impurities is too high, you need to consider changing the lubricant. At this point, it is necessary to check for any mechanical friction, as well as to regularly monitor the pressure difference and replace or clean the filters to ensure the proper operation of the equipment.
The lubricating oil inside the crankcase is bound to experience friction, and no significant pressure difference is required; its role is to lubricate the crankshaft, bearing shells, and connecting rods
For turbine oil, the cleanliness level should be at NAS 8 or higher, with moisture content below 200 PPM; for hydraulic oil, the cleanliness level should be at NAS 8 or higher, with moisture content below 500 PPM. Plunger pumps require that the oil’s cleanliness level be at NAS 8 or higher at the time of leaving the factory. It depends on the actual situation; generally, higher standards are required.
