Specific applications of heat transfer oil in the chemical industry; seeking experts1. Preparation before starting up
(1) Clean the area, loosen the screws on the bearing housings, and add heat transfer oil as a lubricant.
(2) Manually rotate the coupling – the pump should turn smoothly.
(3) Before starting up, fill the pump with the heat transfer oil that will be used for transportation, in order to remove any air from within the pump. At this time, the gate valve on the outlet pipe should be closed.
(4) The heat transfer oil should be heated evenly before starting up. Preheating is achieved by allowing the oil to flow continuously through the pump. The standard for preheating is that the temperature of the pump casing should not be lower than 40°C below the temperature of the oil at the inlet. The preheating rate should be 50°C per hour. During preheating, the side nuts on the pump feet should be loosened by 0.3–0.5 millimeters; they should then be tightened once preheating is complete.
2. Starting up the pump
(1) Ensure that all preparatory tasks have been completed properly.
(2) Connect the power supply. Once the pump reaches its normal operating speed and the instruments show an appropriate pressure, gradually open the gate valve on the output pipeline and adjust it to the desired operating conditions. The pump should not operate continuously for more than 3 minutes with the gate valve closed.
(3) During the first 3–4 hours of operation, after the equipment has reached the operating temperature, shut down the pump. Check the coaxiality between the pump shaft and the motor coupling. The deviation between these axes should be within acceptable limits. The pump shaft should rotate smoothly and without vibration when turned by hand. If these requirements are not met, adjustments need to be made.
(4) During startup, keep an eye on the motor’s power readings and vibration levels. The vibration level should not exceed 0.6 millimeters. If there are any abnormalities, stop the pump and check it.
