Three-phase separators are quite complex; as someone who has only been working in the field of machinery for less than two years, I really don’t know how to handle them. I can do strength calculations, but I’m not proficient in the internal process calculations. Yet my supervisor has asked me to carry out these calculations, and they need to be accurate. So, does this fall under the category of process calculations or mechanical calculations? The calculations I need to perform include determining the height of the weir plates, checking whether the settling time of oil, gas, and water meets the requirements related to the distance between the weir plates and the inlet, identifying the type of separation that will be used, and ensuring that the oil content in the water meets the minimum standards specified by the client.
This should be the responsibility of the process design team.
