During today’s inspection, longitudinal cracks were found in the paint on the outer surface of the hydrogen pipelines; such defects were present in two locations along the several hundred meters of pipeline, and there is concern that this may be due to issues with the quality of the pipeline material. Because last winter was very cold, a part of this pipe froze due to water accumulation, and when the sun came out, a crack appeared there. After measuring with a caliper, the outer diameter here is slightly larger than in other areas. Does such a tube need to be replaced? Is it still a paint issue?
In my opinion, it would be better to analyze the reasons behind this phenomenon before taking any action. If it’s a painting issue, there’s no need to replace it; but if it’s a problem with the pipes, then replacement is definitely necessary. If it’s not possible to determine where the problem lies, it’s best to just replace it outright; this is the safest approach and avoids unnecessary hassle.

Conduct on-site inspections for leaks; if any leaks are found, and they are very small in size and quantity, polymer repair techniques can be used to carry out repairs without the need for welding. If large cracks are found, the pipe should be replaced. For pipes with larger diameters, apply a coating, taking the season into account.
It is recommended to conduct flaw detection, or replace the pipe directly. Hydrogen leaks are no trivial matter; safety comes first. As mentioned above, using soapy water works as well, but it doesn’t guarantee that the pipes aren’t already damaged in some way.
