Which types of pumps (BD) should be selected for transporting ethylene oxide? A. Centrifugal pump with mechanical seal B. Shielded pump C. Axial flow pump D. Magnetic drive pump. AC both have the potential to leak
Thank you for the answer. But I don’t know the source.
Ethylene oxide is an organic compound with the chemical formula C2H4O; it is a toxic carcinogen that is also flammable and explosive. Leak-free pumps are required for transportation; mechanical-sealed centrifugal pumps and axial flow pumps may leak and are therefore not suitable for this purpose. Shielded pumps and magnetic drive pumps have no risk of leakage and can be used for transportation.
I think option A is the right choice; I remember a standard stating that EO should use centrifugal pumps with built-in fans for cooling
If I have to choose an answer, B is the right choice! Magnetic pumps are relatively energy-intensive! Shielded pumps provide good leakage prevention!
The moderator’s answer can only be seen after replying; I’ll learn from this. Personally, for single-choice questions I would choose B, while for multiple-choice questions I would choose BD
