As shown in the report on the analysis and applications of new SBC grades from Sinopec at the 2nd Global Elastomers Summit, global TPE sales amounted to $16.7 billion in 2015, and they are expected to grow at a rate of 4.7% per year by 2022. China, the United States, Japan, and Germany are the largest consumers of TPE, accounting for 63% of global TPE demand in 2015. The Asia-Pacific region is the area with the highest demand for TPE in the world; by 2017, its share of global TPE demand was close to 50%. China has the highest demand for TPE, and future demand for this material is expected to continue growing at a rate of over 8%. Contrary to the rapid growth in TPE demand, the development of domestic SBCs is slow. There are nearly 20 common grades of SEBS available on the market from Keton; in China, only grades with ordinary molecular structures and various molecular weight levels are available. The products with existing molecular structures can no longer meet the requirements regarding elasticity, strength, adhesion, surface finish, stickiness, and oil absorption of such materials. There is a significant upgrade in the types of raw materials used for SBCs. The use of SEBS in automotive interior components helps to reduce vehicle weight, improve safety and reliability, and enhance passenger comfort. However, automotive VOC testing standards, especially those related to benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, and TVOC, often become important factors limiting the use of certain materials. This is closely related to the low-molecular-weight substances that remain unremoved during the manufacturing process of the polymer itself. The quality of SBC raw materials also needs to be improved urgently. As market competition intensifies, the synthetic rubber division of Baling Petrochemicals is focusing on customers with personalized needs or special requirements, while continuously improving product quality in order to develop and produce such products as new sources of economic growth. The 2nd U-TPE Global Elastomer Applications and Development Summit will invite experts such as Liang Hongwen, the lead engineer for lithium-based polymers at Baling Petrochemical, to give speeches. The summit will address issues related to the development and application of new product grades, as well as the improvement of the quality of existing product grades. Those in the elastomer industry, you must not miss the opportunity to have a one-on-one discussion with Engineer Liang. For details, please contact us via: 1.
