The new sanding machines installed in the factory started to show signs of material seeping into the machine seals after just a few hours of operation. There was a noticeable color change in the pressure balance tank associated with these seals, yet the liquid level did not decrease. The pressure in the balance tank remained at 3.5 kilograms, while the pressure inside the grinding cylinder was between 0.6 and 1 kilogram. Yesterday, the manufacturer sent someone to fix the issue, and I assisted them. These are double-face machine seals; upon disassembly, it was found that the static ring of the front friction pair had a noticeable color change, but no signs of wear, while the dynamic ring was completely clean. There was no leakage when air was introduced under static conditions. After reinstalling the seals and running the machines without any grinding discs for 2 hours, no leakage was detected. The radial runout at the end of the spindle was only 14 microns. However, after a few hours of operation with material being processed, the pressure balance tank again showed a noticeable color change. The compression amount of these seals is 4 MM. I have never encountered such a situation before. All of the O-rings used in these seals are imported. I would like to know how this problem can be resolved
So you mean the mechanical seal coolant got in?
It is the material that has entered the seal cooling fluid, but there is no leakage from the seal cooling fluid
Logically, since the seal pressure is higher than the pressure on the medium side, it should be impossible for material to enter the seal coolant
Increase the pressure of the seal water; a too high pressure difference at both ends of the packing can lead to leaks. The inlet setting can only provide some delay, otherwise it will be very costly
Is the pressure in the balance tank lower than the pressure in the chamber?
Are there any substances in the material with strong permeability, such as ammonia and similar compounds?
