How to calculate the carbon consumption in methanol synthesis from natural gas

I heard about the carbon consumption of the natural gas-based methanol synthesis system yesterday. I only know about the one-way conversion rates for CO and CO2, as well as the term ‘carbon consumption’ Could someone with expertise give some advice? If so, how is it calculated and what is its significance? I would like to thank all the experts here
I’ve been looking into related topics these past two days. Personally, I think carbon consumption refers to the energy consumed per ton of methanol, converted into terms of coal energy; I’m not sure if that’s correct. Anyone able to help?
