Measure the SO2 concentrations at the inlet and outlet of the high-pressure side and the low-pressure side; if the concentration at the outlet of the low-pressure side is higher than that at the inlet, it indicates a leak in the gas-to-gas heat exchanger.
Measure the concentration of the inlet and outlet gases; if there is no leakage, the difference between them is minimal. If there is leakage, then the composition changes
Analyze the sulfur dioxide concentrations at the inlet and outlet of the pipe
It’s basic common sense: judge by the changes in sulfur dioxide concentration inside the heat exchanger tubes and at the inlet/outlet ports. If these values are consistent, then there’s no problem; otherwise, there’s a leak. It’s usually not due to a break, but rather corrosion-induced leakage.

There are several methods; the one mentioned by the people above for measuring gas concentration is one of them; It is also possible to open the manhole during maintenance to enter inside, and use a high-brightness flashlight to shine inside at the heat exchange points; generally, broken heat exchange tubes can be seen at a distance of 50–30 centimeters ; During maintenance, an opening can also be made in the cold air duct near the heat exchanger; by lighting a pot of smoke, the smoke can be seen from the access holes located at the upper part of the heat exchanger, which serves as evidence of a leak in that area. Actually, suppression is indeed sufficient – apply pressure from the access hatch above, use air compression, and block it with a rubber plug at the bottom.
