What is the purpose of the pigtail pipe in a hydrogen production converter? Why is it necessary to use a pigtail pipe – couldn’t the reactor tubes simply be inserted directly into the collection tube?
The pigtail tube is usually U-shaped; as the furnace tube heats up and expands, the pigtail tube helps to absorb this force
It is mainly to reduce the stress caused by thermal expansion and contraction, thereby preventing cracks at the pipeline joints
