Can small-diameter flow meters be used on large-diameter pipes? I have a DN100 turbine flow meter that’s just sitting there; I’m thinking of modifying it to be used in DN200 pipes. Is that possible?
The reduction in diameter of the straight sections before and after the flow meter is a very common phenomenon; as long as the range is appropriate, there’s no problem.
As long as it does not exceed the flow meter’s range, the straight pipe section must meet the requirements.
Should the diameter change be done before the straight pipe section, or before the flow meter?
For a DN200 pipe, first reduce the diameter to DN100 using tees; ensure that there is enough straight pipe section for the DN100 pipe, then add flanges and meters, followed by more flanges and another straight pipe section of DN100, and finally increase the diameter back to DN200 using tees.
Changing it from 200 to 100 might affect the process
For metering devices, this range of diameter variation is quite common.
As long as the flow rate meets the requirements and the necessary straight pipe sections are installed, it is feasible
