This year I came across several such processes; during operation, there wasn’t particularly much sludge discharge. In all of them, however, there was a large amount of sludge in the contact oxidation tank, as well as a lot of sticky foam. This is also a very popular technique these days, as the presence of MBR acting as a secondary sedimentation tank gives many people a sense of security. Then, the high-concentration sludge that flows back must compete with the membrane in the contact oxidation tank! What do you think?
