It’s a two-stage reciprocating compressor; when the inlet pressure gets too high, a safety valve opens. I’m seeking advice from experts – I’ve already replaced the valves and the rings are new.

I think it’s necessary to check the setting pressure of the safety valve. In my opinion, adjusting the compressor capacity should not cause the safety valve to activate. From a design perspective, an increase in the inlet air volume leads to an increase in outlet resistance, but the impact on outlet pressure should be negligible! It is recommended to check the safety valve first.
There isn’t a strong relationship between the pressure overpressure and the inlet condition; by carefully analyzing the causes of this overpressure, we can understand that it is definitely due to the fact that the gas exiting the system cannot be discharged in a timely manner. So, check whether there is any blockage in the pipeline from stage 1 to stage 2, and also examine whether there are any issues with the inlet and outlet valves of stage 2 as well as the piston rings. Is Stage 2 overpressured? Overpressure in stage 2 also indicates that there is blockage at the outlet of stage 2 as well.
Agree with the view from Floor 5. The compression ratio of the compressor remains constant; if the inlet pressure at one stage doesn’t change, then the exhaust pressure won’t vary depending on the degree to which the valves are opened. Therefore, it’s important to check the inlet valve for the second stage first, as it is usually the one that causes problems.
It is possible that the system back pressure is high, causing the compressor stage to do more work and thus triggering the safety valve to activate
The design compression ratio of the press is fixed, but in actual production the compression ratio varies, as it is determined by your back pressure and inlet pressure!
The issue is a misaligned valve disc in one intake valve.
