Is the self-priming height of a self-priming pump the same as its NPSH? What are the differences in their testing?
I once had such doubts as well; later I asked the pump manufacturer for the NPSHr value, but the manufacturer said that submersible pumps do not have an NPSHr value – only the concept of self-priming height exists. I was also confused by this~~
The self-priming height of a self-priming pump is different from the concept of NPSH. The design of such pumps features the inlet located at the upper part of the pump body, which is equivalent to having a vacuum chamber added at the front end of the pump; therefore, the calculation methods are different.
