Pumps are divided into rotor components and stator components; all the parts that rotate along with the motor are considered rotor components. The so-called operating clearance refers to the ability of the rotor to move back and forth within the stator while still being able to rotate, with this clearance typically being around 3 mm. Since the motor also experiences axial movement while rotating, if no margin is left on the pump side, it will lead to axial compression between the impeller, guide vanes, and other components, which will reduce the pump’s service life. When installing the pump, it is necessary to measure the total axial clearance between the rotor and the pump casing, and take half of this value in order to align the impeller with the guide vanes. This is a relatively important step in the installation of multi-stage pumps. This is done by adjusting the balance disc shaft sleeve shims.
