Why is the PH of vinyl chloride monomer low when converting two caustic scrubbers with high amounts of caustic used? The PH of the monomer storage tank dropped suddenly
1. The packing in the alkali scrubber is dirty or the mass transfer efficiency is poor. 2. Self-polymerization or oxidative decomposition of the monomer occurs in the distillation system
If the monomer has a high water content and the temperature is high, it will hydrolyze; moreover, it depends on whether the wash tower contains acid.
The monomer PH level is low; it mainly depends on where the sample was taken. If it was taken before the distillation solid alkali dryer, it indicates that the monomer has a high water content, so care should be taken to remove water. If the pH value of the finished monomer is low, it’s not just a matter of water removal; the rod alkali in the dryer should be replaced.
