Raw materials for styrene plants: What raw materials are used in various plants? As far as I know, there’s ethylene and catalytic dry gas; are there any others?
Isn’t it the reaction of benzene and ethylene?

How many styrene production facilities are there in China at present, and what is their total production capacity? The facilities that are known to exist include Maoming Petrochemical, Guangzhou Petrochemical, Hainan Refining & Chemical, Shengyuan, etc
The chemical synthesis method uses benzene and ethylene as raw materials. The extraction method (sulfolane extraction distillation) uses the C8+ components in ethylene cracking gasoline as raw material. In Maoming, it is the extraction method that is used.

However, in the petrochemical industry for the synthesis of styrene, due to limited direct sources of ethylbenzene, benzene and ethylene are used as raw materials; under the action of acidic catalysts (Lewis acids or solid acids), an alkylation reaction is carried out to produce ethylbenzene. Ethylbenzene is converted into styrene through catalytic dehydrogenation. Recently, the production of styrene via co-oxidation of benzene and ethylene, with ethylene oxide as a by-product, has been observed. I haven’t seen any detailed information or discussions on this manufacturing process.

There’s also Extended Brothers... hehe! The raw materials are used in a process that involves catalytic dry gas extraction to produce ethylene, continuous reforming of benzene followed by extraction to obtain benzene of high purity, and then dehydration to produce styrene!
