A few days ago, gas samples were taken from the top of the hydrogen sulfide removal tower to test for hydrogen sulfide and ammonia; the level of hydrogen sulfide was over 2,000,000 ppm, while that of ammonia was over 200 ppm. Doesn’t 1ppm mean one part per million? So 2,000,000 pm converted to a percentage is 200%? ? ? How should this be understood?
First, check the range of the testing method; if it is exceeded, the results will definitely be inaccurate. Then another lab technician performs the test again to see if the result is still this high. Additionally, ppm means one part per million, but it has no unit; it is necessary to determine what the unit is for the hydrogen sulfide gas being measured – whether it is mg/L or ml/L.
The test results were obtained after diluting the gas; otherwise, the reading would definitely have been outside the range. What about mg/l per unit time? How to put it?
The density of air is approximately 1.29 g/L, that of hydrogen sulfide is about 1.53 g/L, and the density of ammonia is 0.77 g/L. In other words, under normal temperature and pressure, the concentration of hydrogen sulfide can be at most 1530 mg/L, while that of ammonia can be at most 770 mg/L. What you measured is equivalent to 2000 g/L; there must be some problem somewhere. What were the approximate values of the previous test data? Compare them with the previous experimental methods to see where the problem might lie
