Wang Wusheng, one of the pioneers in China’s water-based polyurethane industry, has achieved a significant technological breakthrough by utilizing his extensive experience over more than 30 years; he managed to develop water-based polyurethane ultra-thin condoms with thicknesses of only 0.01 millimeters and 0.02 millimeters. At the launch ceremony, Wang Wusheng discussed the innovative development of water-based polyurethane technology in the condom industry as well as the advantages of these products. Compared to traditional natural latex condoms, first, condoms made from water-based polyurethane are one-third as thick as those made of natural latex; they have a better feel against the skin, conduct heat more quickly, and thus enhance comfort instantly. Second, traditional natural latex contains proteins, and some consumers are allergic to these proteins. Additionally, the production of natural latex condoms generates nitrosamines, which are strong carcinogens that pose a serious threat to consumers’ health. Water-based polyurethane condoms help to avoid such problems related to allergies and cancer. Third, due to their molecular structure, water-based polyurethane has a zero-pore structure and high density, which enables it to effectively prevent various viruses such as HIV, HPV, and HBV from causing harm to the body, offering excellent virus prevention capabilities. This overcomes the material-related shortcomings of natural latex condoms, thereby improving both user experience and the safety of condoms. Technological innovation drives industrial upgrading; Chinese manufacturing is shaping the future of this market. Relevant research data shows that, as a country with a large population, China consumes 2 billion condoms per year, ranking it fourth in the world – indicating significant potential for growth in this consumer market. At present, most of the market share in the domestic market is held by foreign brands; faced with such a large demand, the market share of domestic brands is rather disappointing.
