Debugging steps for ABB valve positioners
Thread Content
Debugging steps: 1. Connect the air supply and check whether the pressure after the pressure regulator meets the requirements specified on the actuator’s nameplate (the maximum air supply pressure for the positioner is 7 BAR, but the actual air supply pressure should be based on the maximum pressure allowed by the actuator); 2. Connect the 4--20mA input signal. (The operating power for the locator is derived from the input signal; it is powered via the DCS two-wire system, with an endpoint voltage of around DC8.7V. DC24V should not be applied directly to the locator, as this may damage its circuitry.) ; 3. Check the installation angle of the position feedback rod (if the positioner and actuator are supplied as a set, the actuator supplier will carry out the installation and adjustment; in that case, only a check is required – this step is not mandatory):- Hold down the MODE button.
- Simultaneously press the ↑ or ↓ button until the operation mode code 1.3 appears.
- Release the MODE button. -Use the ↑ or ↓ keys to move the actuator to the two terminal positions respectively, and record the angles at these two positions. -The two angles should fall within the following recommended range (minimum angular displacement of 20 degrees) ; (Rigorous symmetry is not required.) The full stroke angle should be at least 25°. 4. Switch to the parameter configuration menu: – Press both the ↑ and ↓ keys simultaneously. – Click the ENTER key, then release it. – The counter counts from 3 down to 0. – Release the ↑ and ↓ keys. The program will automatically enter the P1.0 configuration menu. 5. Use the ↑ and ↓ keys to select whether the actuator should operate in linear or angular mode. Angular travel mode: the angle variation is greater than -28° to +28° (56°) and less than -57° to +57° (114°). Straight-line operation mode: angle variation less than -28° to +28° (56°). Note: Before performing automatic adjustment, please confirm that the actual installation configuration matches the one selected in the positioner menu, as the method used by the positioner to define the end positions of the actuator’s travel, as well as the linearization correction database, vary during automatic adjustment, which may result in significant nonlinear errors. 6. Start the automatic adjustment program (this program is ideal for re-calibrating after the actuator or valve is installed in the system) ; -Hold down the MODE key – click the ↑ button once or multiple times until “P1.1” is displayed – release the MODE key – hold down the ENTER key for 3 seconds until the counter counts down to 0 – release the ENTER key, and the automatic adjustment program will start running (the sequence number of the currently executing program statement will be displayed). -Once the automatic adjustment process is successfully completed, the display shows “COMPLETE”. If a fault occurs during the automatic adjustment process, the program will be forced to terminate and a fault code will be displayed; based on this fault code, it is possible to identify the cause of the fault, or the automatic adjustment process can also be manually interrupted. 7. If necessary, go to “P1.2” to adjust the control deviation range. 8. If necessary, go to “P1.3” to adjust the control dead zone. 9. If necessary, go to “P1.4” to test the set effects. 10. Save the settings: - Hold down the MODE button - Click the ↑ or ↓ button once or several times until “P1.5” is displayed - Release the MODE button - Use the ↑ or ↓ button to select NV_SAVE (if “CANCEL” is selected, any changes made so far will not be saved). -Hold down the ENTER key for 3 seconds until the counter reaches zero, then release it (to select “CANCEL” and not save the settings, this step is also required to exit the parameter configuration mode).
