The working methods of EHS experts: What is the difference between experts and ordinary people? It is the persistence toward goals, the methodology for carrying out tasks, efficiency in working, attention to detail… These 9 aspects give insight into how experts handle situations; by using them as a guide, you will surely be able to become an expert! 1: Taking immediate action – the importance of execution is a well-known truth. Improving execution by avoiding delays stems from a thorough understanding of goals and an perseverance that goes beyond what is ordinary. How to deeply understand a goal? On the one hand, it is necessary to accumulate various relevant basic knowledge and skills; on the other hand, it is important to apply the SMART principle flexibly to organize goals from different perspectives. S: Specifically, define the goal as a concrete outcome, rather than an intangible and unattainable idea ; M: Quantification – determine what quantitative results need to be achieved ; A: It’s achievable. Carefully consider whether the goal can be reached, and whether the team’s resources, capabilities, and morale are sufficient to meet the requirements for achieving it. Consider what to do if those conditions aren’t met; if it’s far beyond the team’s capabilities, then don’t make any promises ; R: Is it meaningful? Is doing this beneficial for the company, the team, and the individual? Understand deeply what that meaning is ; T: There is a time limit; it is clear what the ultimate deadline for achieving the goal is. Taking action immediately is not reckless; understanding the goals thoroughly is the secret of the experts. 2: Taking breaks allows one to have more energy and be more efficient during working hours. Is resting just sleeping? Yes, and no. Adequate, high-quality sleep is essential, but that is just the basics. A more reasonable way to rest is to \"change the activity of the brain\" – in addition to sleeping, one should do things that help relax both the body and mind, such as listening to music, exercising, or chatting with family members. While some people choose to play games all night, play mahjong all night, or drink until they are completely drunk, such methods not only fail to provide rest but actually make them more tired. 3: Classifying things, knowledge, and people is another secret to success for experts. By categorizing tasks and determining their urgency, and by focusing on the 20% of tasks that are most critical and important, it is possible to achieve 80% of the desired results. This allows more time and energy to be devoted to thinking and learning*, thus creating a positive cycle ; Classify knowledge and establish your own knowledge system based on those categories. When the knowledge within this system is interconnected, learning becomes less of an additive process and more of a multiplicative one, leading to greater efficiency! Classifying people does not mean that one can show less respect to certain individuals; equal respect should be given to everyone. However, when it comes to having a deeper relationship with someone, it is necessary to allocate one’s energy accordingly based on such classification. The more detailed the classification, the better one can pay attention to details that ordinary people miss. 4: The ability to concentrate fully on one task and devote oneself entirely to it is what distinguishes experts from ordinary people. Focus one’s mind, ignoring gains and losses as well as the consequences of failure, and devote oneself wholeheartedly to achieving the goal ; Execution is centralized: to achieve a certain goal, all efforts are focused in one direction, with all team members pooling their strengths toward that goal. Focus your efforts and avoid being distracted by trivial matters to reach heights beyond what ordinary people can attain. 5: Iteration toward perfection – Ordinary people may stop trying when they encounter imperfections, while experts keep making attempts, doing better each time, in order to achieve perfection over the long term. Endure the initial imperfections and shortcomings, and enter the market to be tested by the public ; Maintain efficient communication with the market, and promptly make improvements after receiving feedback on issues ; Repeating the above process will bring it closer and closer to perfection. Reaching perfection step by step in the most cost-effective way is precisely the trick that experts use to persevere. 6: Work with a rhythm – When there are multiple tasks to handle, the rhythm with which experts carry out their work shows its advantages. Focus on doing important and urgent tasks ; Use your free time to do things that are important but not urgent ; Focus time on dealing with trivial matters ; If a task can be completed in 2 minutes, do it right away without delay ; Not missing important matters, focusing on key tasks, not delaying valuable minor tasks, and giving up trivial ones – this is the working rhythm of experts. 7: Working in an organized and systematic manner is another secret of experts. Having a goal alone is not enough; it must also be broken down into actionable plans to ensure success. What are the key points for making such plans? Break the goal down into multiple tasks; the combination of these tasks is a necessary and sufficient condition for achieving the goal – it must indeed be both necessary and sufficient! Ensure that every task has someone assigned to carry it out, and ensure that those assigned have the ability to complete the task ; Quantitatively determine what the final deliverable for each task is ; Specify the completion time for each task. After making a plan, strictly check its completion against the scheduled timelines and quality requirements for the deliverables ; After achieving the goals as planned, it is necessary to conduct analysis and summarization, identifying the strengths and weaknesses in the execution process, so as to make the achievement of subsequent goals smoother and more efficient. Taken together, this constitutes the efficient work cycle of \"plan–execute–check–act\", also known as the PDCA cycle; that’s exactly what experts do! 8: Take control of time – Plan your day: Get up early in the morning to make a plan for the day ; You can read or listen to recordings on the way to work ; Upon arriving at the company, first discuss the daily work plan with colleagues ; Focus fully on key tasks in the morning ; Use lunch break to watch the news, engage in your hobbies, and relax ; Continue working in the afternoon ; Go home as soon as possible after work to spend some time with your family ; Set aside some time in the evening to study* and reflect on the achievements and shortcomings of the day’s work ; Scheduling your time properly not only makes work more efficient and enables faster skill development, but it also helps you feel relaxed. 9: Being good at delegating tasks – anyone is not a superhuman; trying to do everything by oneself will only lead to exhaustion, without allowing one to reach a higher level of performance. By distributing tasks reasonably among the other team members and working together, tasks can be completed faster and more efficiently, while also allowing all team members to gain the necessary experience. Key points of proper authorization: a thorough understanding of the goal, knowing what needs to be done ; A reasonable breakdown of the plan ensures that the recycling efforts can achieve the overall objectives ; To fully understand team members, it is not only necessary to know their work capabilities but also their psychological state; they need to have the ability to perform tasks as well as high morale. Someone who does things well can only be considered skilled; only those who are able to lead a team to success are truly great.
