Reasons for the effect of phenols on thiol detection during doctoral experiments

SH/T 0174-2015 specifies that in the Drabek test, the test is terminated due to the interference caused by phenols. I would like to ask the teachers: in doctoral experiments, in what specific way do phenols affect the detection of thiol compounds? Is it its presence that causes coloration, thereby making it impossible to determine whether the coloration is caused by thiol or phenols? Or does its presence cause no color formation during thiol detection, resulting in the possibility of thiol presence going undetected? I haven’t come across this testing item before; could everyone give me some advice? Thank you!
If phenols are present, pour 10 mL of the sample and 5 mL of sodium hypolithite solution into a stoppered measuring cylinder, shake it vigorously for 15 seconds; the solution will gradually turn yellow or brown, making it impossible to determine whether thiol sulfides are present
