Testing method for ammonia nitrogen in refinery wastewater

Dear colleagues in the industry, our company uses distillation titration to determine ammonia nitrogen levels in wastewater. We asked several companies in the same sector, and they all use the Nessler colorimetric method. For the same water sample, the results obtained using the Nessler method are much lower than those obtained by our titration method. Does this mean that the Nessler method has higher accuracy?

For the determination of ammonia nitrogen in water, the three national standard methods are equivalent, and their data accuracy and precision have been verified. Water with high concentrations and severe pollution is best analyzed after ammonia is removed through alkaline distillation; whether by titration or colorimetry, the results should be very accurate. However, for highly polluted wastewater samples, the amount of alkali added must be sufficiently excessive; otherwise, the measured values will be low.
