During this technical upgrade, water hammer occurred when the condensate pipeline was connected to the main pipe
Two (or more) streams of condensate water with significant temperature differences meet.
In some installations, the steam traps do not function properly in terms of draining water; as a result, steam enters the condensate pipelines, causing the temperature of the condensate in different lines to vary. Alternatively, if the insulation around the condensate pipelines is inadequate, the temperature differences after mixing can be significant, which can lead to water hammer! It is recommended to check the steam traps and replace those with poor drainage performance. We replaced all of them in our facility last year, and while that improved things, there is still some water hammering!
