I need help choosing the gasket for the tube box flanges of a U-tube heat exchanger with DN1200 dimensions and a nominal pressure of 6.4 MPa. Please advise experts. When selecting wound gaskets, it was found that they are not specified in the GB/T29463.2-2012 standard. Cannot wound gaskets be used under such high pressures and for such large sizes? If that’s not possible, what should be chosen then?
For U-tube heat exchangers of DN1200 with a nominal pressure of 6.4 MPa, metal wound gaskets are suitable in terms of both gasket diameter and pressure.
Selection is based on temperature, medium, and pressure; omitting any of these elements results in an incomplete view.
I also think there’s no problem with that, but standard metal wound gaskets do not exist in the DN1200, PN6.4MPa version
Metal gaskets can be used; the surface of these gaskets is toothed, with graphite inlaid on it
The metal gasket doesn’t reach 6.4 MPa either for DN1200
Select a metal gasket in accordance with JB/T 4718-92. A metal toothed gasket + graphite should work as well
It’s better to avoid using gasketing and metal shims; the pressure limit has been reached, and it doesn’t feel safe. Metal toothed gaskets can be used for diameters up to 2000 mm; you definitely have ones for 1200 mm
Are there special toothed gaskets for heat exchangers? Which standard is it? Could you give some advice?
I looked for it, but I still haven’t found it. For ASME high-pressure heat exchangers I’ve worked on before, toothed gaskets were used; the inner diameter was around 1200 as well. Since it was a retrofit project, the gasket dimensions were kept the same as those used before – I can’t remember the exact values. The design can be based on the actual contact width of metal wound gaskets or metal clad gaskets. If inner and outer rings are required, the dimensions of those rings in metal wound gaskets can be used as a reference
