It mainly depends on what kind of mineral it is Many mining and processing facilities use different chemicals and employ varying treatment processes. The wastewater from the processing of gold, copper, lead-zinc, and silver usually contains high levels of arsenic and cadmium, as xanthates have to be added in such processes. Otherwise, the foul smell you mentioned is likely caused by a high content of organic substances. This requires taking water samples and conducting water tests to draw a conclusion.
