In our factory, the piston rod of the third stage of the 4M50 compressor broke after about 40 days of operation. We would appreciate it if someone with expertise could analyze the reasons for this
It’s hard to say; the operating parameters and conditions are unclear
Is it a new machine? Poor lubrication of the bearing shells and pistons, misalignment of the crankshaft, overloading of the compressor, and quality issues with the piston rods – all of these can cause the piston rod to break! It’s still necessary to analyze the specific data to determine what the cause is!
This machine has been in operation for five or six years; it stopped working suddenly from last year to this year. The pressure at outlet 3 is 1.9 MPa, at outlet 4 it is 5.6 MPa, and at outlet 5 it is 11 MPa

If the problem is not due to an issue with the quality of the piston rod, then it’s likely caused by abnormal bending stresses experienced by the piston rod during movement. Check whether the gap between the crosshead bearing and the slide is within the specified standards, and verify that the play in the portion of the piston rod that extends from the crosshead connection is within acceptable limits. Also, ensure that the gap between the piston support bearing and the cylinder meets the technical requirements. By adjusting these gaps and levels to meet the standards, the problem can usually be resolved; otherwise, there is likely an issue with the quality of the piston rod itself.
