Every painter wants to see a smooth and even paint finish on the surfaces they coat, as this is a sign of their skill. Yet even experienced painters who have been doing painting work for many years still encounter fish-eye-like defects on the surface of the paint film when using fluorocarbon paint. What exactly causes this phenomenon? 1. What is the shrinkage-type fish-eye phenomenon? When we observe the paint film, we can see small oil pits distributed in patches on its surface, or larger crater-like oil pits; the depth of these pits is such that the underlying substrate becomes clearly visible – this is what we commonly refer to as the fish-eye effect caused by shrinkage cavities. 2. The specific reasons that cause the shrinkage-hole-like fish-eye phenomenon. (1) The substrate was not cleaned thoroughly, with substances such as wax, grease, and oil still remaining on it. (2) The paint film is contaminated during the drying process. (3) The atmospheric environment is contaminated with moisture and oil stains, failing to meet the cleanliness requirements. 3. How to address the fish-eye defect in the form of shrinkage? Method 1: For small quantities and areas, the polishing method can be used for removal. Method 2: If there are a large number of them and they cover a certain area, it is essential to first sand them and then repaint them, while monitoring the process at all times to adjust the repair strategies as needed. 4. Preventive measures against shrinkage-induced fish-eye phenomenon: (1) Thoroughly clean the substrate to meet the coating requirements of fluorocarbon anti-corrosion paint. (2) Regularly inspect the air compressor drainage equipment and oil-water separation equipment. (3) In spraying workshops and paint curing rooms, it is strictly forbidden to use products containing silicone oil.
