What is the purity level of dichloroethane? The specific distillation process
Is the dichloroethane storage tank heated with hot water via a jacket? If not, a set of small distillation columns with three towers will suffice; the concentration of dichloroethane doesn’t require any complex techniques – it just involves heating!
Is your dichloroethane column tapped from the bottom or the top?
We have three towers here, but the dichloroethane is extracted from the top of these towers; the purity of the extracted dichloroethane is only around 80%. If the temperature is too high, the dichloroethane evaporates away
In the three-column distillation process, vinyl chloride monomer is distilled at the top of the towers, while dichloroethane is obtained from the bottom part. Also, the temperature at the bottom of the tower was too high, which caused all of the dichloroethane to evaporate.
Intermittent distillation is difficult to control; currently, hot water is used for heating in order to facilitate evaporation. I’m thinking of making some changes to try and increase the purity level to over 95%. Do you have any good suggestions?
To achieve a higher purity, first, it is necessary to control the temperature properly, and second, it is important to control the flow rate into the three towers. Are you distilling from the high-boiling-point compound buffer tank?
Dichloroethane is sold as a by-product; what’s the use of achieving such high purity?
The purity is higher, which enables the recovery of vinyl chloride monomer and reduces losses. How much does dichloroethane cost per ton? And what is the cost of recovering one ton of monomer?
There are already three distillation towers in place, used for recovering vinyl chloride from dichloroethane, as not much monomer is left. The economic benefits are not worthwhile
It depends on the purity of the dichloroethane you are currently selling. If its purity is over 90%, then there is no need for further recycling; however, if the purity is below 85%, hot water distillation can be carried out in the dichloroethane storage tank.
