The range of reflux volume, or the reflux ratio, is specified in the distillation column design. So, are we simply adjusting according to this requirement? 3. What are the indicators used for making slight adjustments to the backflow volume? Top temperature, pressure, composition of the product at the top of the tower, composition of the product at the bottom of the tower... 4. In some of our distillation towers, there is an issue of excessive reflux flow. This will inevitably lead to increased energy consumption. So, how can the best match be found? If the proportion of heavy components in the feed is much higher than before, at a constant distillation pressure the temperature at the bottom of the tower will increase. If the reflux ratio remains unchanged, an increase in the tower temperature may also lead to an increase in the temperature at the top of the tower, resulting in a decrease in the yield of the product. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the reflux ratio appropriately in order to maintain the previous temperature at the top of the tower, which will resolve this issue. Personal opinion, not proven through practice; please adopt it selectively
1. If there is only internal reflux, it is adjusted by controlling the flow rate of water in the tower top condenser; 2. If there is only external reflux, it is adjusted by controlling the amount of distillate collected; 3. If there is both internal and external reflux, then both can be adjusted simultaneously.
