I choose to ignore it for now; I’m eager to find a good job. Life is full of twists – at 40, I’m still not sure what to do. Should I change careers or keep working hard? A bottle of ink, half a bottle makes a clattering sound. Full of confidence, I have participated in 3 project constructions for the client; although they are not large-scale, their budgets still exceed 100 million yuan each. Thinking I was amazing just by having a first-class construction engineer certificate, I sent out resumes everywhere, but no one showed any interest! What’s so great about it? The deputy in charge of the equipment position has held it for 13 years; having to be second to others for so long, but actually they quite like this role. Although I worked hard to become a procurement manager, things didn’t go as planned; it turned out that the second-in-command role was more suitable. Haha, the eternal second place – I like it! Graduated from a technical school in chemical engineering machinery; when I arrived at the company, no one paid any attention to me. I was assigned to do manual labor, and it was always us graduates from technical schools who took on the dirty, tough, and dangerous tasks – we were considered the worst among beginners. Just because our educational background isn’t as good as others’? Serious flaw! ! ! Brothers at home who don’t understand this think that creating such a position is something really impressive, thinking it’s some kind of middle-ranking official position! (At least my peers who graduated have jobs that are better than the one I was assigned to—at XX Fertilizer Factory) Hehe! Brother is just trying to impress the guys in the village by putting himself on a higher pedestal, haha! As soon as I joined the team, the first person I worked under was Master Ren; it was a great honor to be assigned to Team 2 (out of the four major teams in the company, this team ranks first almost every month in terms of production, energy consumption, daily management, labor discipline, etc.). Master Ren’s nickname is Banyau (in the small nitrogen fertilizer factory, with around 300 people there, almost everyone has a nickname) – he was my first mentor in life after entering society. Although he was of the same height as the guys in Team 4, Master Banyau had a kind heart; evil thoughts never even crossed his mind. Although I studied under Teacher Bayu for three months, I really didn’t learn anything about manufacturing techniques; the only thing I learned was that during night shifts I had to go to discharge waste at 6:00, and stay there until the tower stopped making noise and the valves were closed. It was also from Ta that I learned the basic social skills needed to interact with others – treating colleagues at the same level as brothers and sisters, and approaching superiors in a respectful yet firm manner, backed by solid knowledge and excellent skills. He said that in school the main task is to master theoretical knowledge, while once one starts working, the first thing is to learn how to behave as a person; young people should be diligent (in doing chores, bringing tea, etc.) and not be picky, always stepping forward to take on the most difficult tasks first. It was thanks to Teacher Bayu’s proper guidance, as well as his caring attitude toward me like a family member, that I had the courage to face challenges head-on, perhaps also because I had no prior knowledge of chemical production and was therefore willing to take on tasks right away! In short, if you want to make progress and strive for improvement, then you must work harder than your peers at the same level, as well as those who are older than you – whether it’s in terms of work or personal life – and put in far more effort; only then can you receive the corresponding rewards! The efforts of today are the results of tomorrow. Through my own efforts in various aspects, as well as the kind actions of the workshop supervisor and the progress of the project, coupled with my consistent attitude of working hard without complaint, my role as an operation assistant came to an end. From then on, I started working on the day shift; I changed my job from operation assistant to a maintenance worker, thus truly getting rid of the chaotic schedule associated with the four-shift or three-shift system. (Since the start of the shift rotation, I’ve been really envious – when can we ever work a regular day shift as well?) One could even work as a security guard until retirement! ) Treat yourself well on that day: a bottle of Yimeng Laobaijiu, three pancakes at 50 cents each, and stir-fried meat with peppers for 2 yuan. Have some wine and gradually get drunk until you fall into a dreamy sleep. I hope the dream doesn’t end; being a maintenance technician is my dream – a day shift! I'm here! ! !
