The vertical multi-stage pipeline pumps used in the pump room experience water outages from time to time (several times a year). If the pumps are not turned off promptly after such outages, the mechanical seals suffer from wear due to lack of water. After each outage, there is a lot of air in the pumps and pipelines, and it is necessary to manually open the exhaust valves to release this air; sometimes it takes a long time to do so. These pumps are used to supply water to the rooftop tank, and their operation is controlled by a float in the tank based on the water level. I now want to have the pump stop automatically when there is a lack of water in the water inlet pipeline. How can this be achieved? I also want to add an automatic exhaust device (I think there’s a mechanical automatic exhaust valve?) ), what kind is good to install?
Can the pump be started and stopped based on the liquid level? Set up a interlock to stop the pump when the liquid level is low, ensuring that there is no liquid in the pipes in advance

It’s easy to implement this with DCS control – just add a communication link between the DCS and the pump’s distribution panel, as well as a relevant component for stopping the pump on that panel. In our facility, where DCS control is not used, we have also had: a magnetic flap level gauge on site, along with sensors equipped with two relay units for remote monitoring; the pump starts automatically when the liquid level is high, and it stops automatically when the level is low.

Is the water inlet on the rooftop tank controlled by a float, meaning there is no level gauge? It’s difficult to implement level interlocks; so let’s consider it from an electrical perspective, in terms of current and power. SCAR composite exhaust valve – this type of valve can be seen at the sewage outlet; it is suitable for automatic exhaust during periods when the pump is not in use.
What the poster means is: the water supply comes from the main pipeline network.
This is really tricky; the difficulty lies in knowing when the pump has expelled all the air! ! ! If the air isn’t properly expelled, the mechanical seal will grind dry~
To supply water to the top floor, the water flow should be under pressure; adding a pressure relay is a simple, reliable, and cost-effective solution. Exhaust issue. Add a time relay to delay the process for a certain period, allowing the pump to be filled with water pressure.
