Is it necessary to install a slip device for vertical heat exchangers?

As the title suggests, I first need to design a vertical heat exchanger. Is it necessary to include a slip device as well? If setting is required, where should it be set? Evenly distributed along the baffle?
I’ve never heard of vertical heat exchangers being equipped with slides.
If it’s set, isn’t it a bit arbitrary to decide whether to place it on the left or the right? The slide is provided to facilitate the introduction of the pipe bundle during installation.
