However, some planets are very similar to Earth, and we have found that a planet located nearby Earth, at a distance of 16 light-years, is likely to possess the conditions necessary for supporting life. Gliese 832c is a \"super-Earth\" planet with a mass at least 5 times that of Earth.
A team of international astronomers says that Gliese 832c is located in the habitable zone of the star Gliese 832, at an appropriate distance from the star that allows liquid water to exist on its surface. Hawking argued that the discovery of intelligent life forms would be the greatest discovery in human history, and it would force humanity to change; we must abandon the idea that humans are unique in the universe. However, there are other unknown factors regarding the planet Gliese 832c; for example, the unknown components of its atmosphere could make it vastly different from Earth and render it incapable of supporting any form of life. Meanwhile, Gliese 832c completes one orbit around its star in just 36 days. Its atmosphere is extremely dense, and the thick fog surrounding the planet’s surface effectively \"chokes\" it; or worse still, there is a strong gravitational pull on the side of the planet that faces its nearby star. This means that one side of it always faces its primary star. Although this planet could become a new home for humans on Earth in the future, Hawking pointed out that there might be some unexpected differences on this planet, such as plants on its surface being black and purple in color. This planet may have temperatures similar to Earth’s, with abundant liquid water and intelligent life forms; where there is water, life usually exists.
