Before dealing with oil leakage, a thorough analysis must be conducted to identify the cause of the leak and the exact location of the leakage. In dealing with any type of oil leak, the use of thick material padding or binding methods should be prohibited. 1. Seals The pressure-bearing area of the sealing rubber should be suitable for the force exerted by the screws; otherwise, it will be difficult to compress properly ; When replacing the rubber sealing ring of the oil plug, the valves and passages at each inlet of this component should be closed, and the replacement should be carried out while maintaining negative pressure to allow for the discharge of large amounts of oil. The sealing material must possess good oil resistance and aging resistance, as well as excellent elasticity and mechanical properties; materials such as asbestos packing and cork gaskets should be avoided as much as possible. Components with poor structure or inappropriate sealing methods, such as radiators and oil purifiers whose connection flanges lack sufficient strength and are prone to deformation when bolts are tightened, resulting in the flanges not pressing tightly against the gaskets, should be modified or replaced. The crimping surface at the seal area should be smooth; when placing the gasket, it is advisable to apply a layer of adhesive such as polyvinyl chloride or varnish first. 2. Welding When a leak is detected on the upper part of the transformer tank, only a small amount of oil needs to be drained before welding can be carried out ; When a leak is found at the bottom of the fuel tank, oil welding can be used, as draining the tank by core removal is too wasteful and is limited by site conditions. Oil-based patch welding should be carried out when the oil leakage is not severe; otherwise, vacuum extraction should be used to create a negative pressure before welding. The degree of vacuum should not be too high – it is preferable for the internal and external pressures to be equal, in order to avoid drawing in molten iron. Oxyacetylene welding is generally prohibited for repair welding with oil ; For welding, it is advisable to use thinner electrodes such as 422 and 425 electrodes ; When performing patch welding, the oil from the area to be welded must be removed thoroughly; it is best to rinse it with alkaline water and then dry it off ; During welding, care must be taken to prevent penetration and ignition; the welding area must be below the oil level ; During welding, intermittent and rapid spot welding should be used; the arc duration must be kept within 10 seconds to 20 seconds, and continuous welding for long periods is strictly prohibited. When patch-welding pores with severe oil leakage, they can first be blocked or riveted using wire before welding is carried out ; When welding near sealing rubber gaskets or other vulnerable components, cooling and protective measures should be taken. 3. Sand holes: Sand holes in castings can be plugged under pressure using Diu No. 1 sealant. After plugging, it is necessary to reinforce the area, and then it should be dried with a hair dryer for 5 minutes to 15 minutes until it cures. Oil leakage from seals: This usually happens when the sealing surfaces age or in areas such as bellows; in such cases, the entire area may be covered with oil, making it difficult to locate the source of leakage. Oil leakage from valves: This primarily occurs at the end caps of valve stems, with wear, corrosion, and aging being the main causes. Oil leakage from bushings: This happens mainly at the bottom of the bushings, at the junction between ceramic and metal; the different mechanical properties of these materials can lead to poor sealing. The key to stopping oil leakage in transformers lies in two factors: first, whether the material can form an effective bond with the substrate in the presence of an oil film on the surface; second, whether conventional metal repair materials can effectively resist the high permeability of high-frequency transformer oil.
