For our company’s new project, we need a coke oven gas transmission pipeline with a flow rate of 50,000 NM3/h and a transmission pressure of 6 Kpa. I would like to know the flow velocity corresponding to this pipeline diameter at such a transmission pressure
<10m/s, pipe diameter DN1400
There seems to be a design specification regarding the flow rate in pipes. I can look for it; once I find it, I’ll upload it to the forum
I don’t understand what the original poster is trying to convey? The flow rate is given; once the pipe diameter is known, the cross-sectional area can be calculated, but the flow velocity cannot be determined. What does this have to do with pressure?
The gas pressure is 6 Kpa, and it flows through a DN1400 pipeline at a rate of 70,000 m³/h; the resulting flow velocity is 12.6 m/s. Is this flow velocity appropriate for the gas?
Using DN1400 pipes is definitely suitable
If the flow rate you calculated is 12.6 m/s, it seems that the temperature of this gas is quite high, around 200°C or more. According to the flow velocity requirements for pipes in industrial furnaces, the flow velocity in low-pressure clean coal gas pipes (for preheating) should be 3–5 m/s; therefore, this flow velocity is not appropriate. According to the power pipeline manual, for artificial gas with a DN of ≥800, the flow rate should be between 12 and 18; therefore, this flow rate is appropriate.
