How can materials such as valves and pipes in turnkey projects be managed to avoid waste? What experiences does everyone have?
How is it determined whether this is wasteful or not? By the construction phase, all valves are in use, so there is no waste. But what if the number of valves exceeds the limit during design?
There will be no waste; it’s normal for there to be a surplus in the design. To ensure the installation progress, the excess can be properly stored as spare parts.
To be precise, it should be material management; construction materials should first be assigned specific storage locations, with different types of materials stored separately and labeled accordingly. Decide based on the actual situation whether a dedicated person is needed for supervision, and whether material retrieval requires a material requisition form. Regularly, personnel should be organized to conduct inventory checks of materials. At the same time, during the construction process, it is necessary to ensure that the work site is clean after completion, and any excess materials should be recycled.
There is a software called MARIAN dedicated to material management, with an accuracy level that can be maintained at around 1%.
The excess materials are being returned to storage; we still haven’t used up the materials left over from the construction period here after more than 4 years :)
This is indeed very difficult. Here, we first purchase 80% of the materials, and then have the supplier deliver the remaining amount in small batches, once every two weeks
This is a good question. The procurement of equipment and materials is an important factor in the profitability of EPC projects; it’s best to adopt a system of limited material issuance, as this allows for tracking and helps to control waste effectively!
