The vibration at the front and rear ends of the ammonia compressor in our factory fluctuates irregularly, ranging from 14 microns to 21 microns; it increases over a period of about 8 minutes before decreasing again over about 2 minutes, with no changes in other parameters. Please, experts, offer some guidance.
Can the original poster upload the trend chart? The turbines from that manufacturer?
1. Check the bearing shell clearance. 2. Check the steam seal clearance for any friction. 3. Are there any foreign objects inside the cylinder? 4. Check whether the inlet filter screen is damaged, as particles entering the cylinder can cause vibration. 5. Check whether the steam inlet drainage system carries water instantly. In short: Handling such faults requires the comprehensive analytical skills of engineers with extensive practical experience.

Could the poster provide more detailed parameters regarding the shafting and manufacturing processes? Based on your description, the range of fluctuations isn’t very large. Is it synchronized with changes in steam consumption?

If the short-term vibration values fluctuate significantly, check the probe response as well as the insulation of the signal cable. Frequent and regular fluctuations are often related to operational adjustments.
