Can the vent openings of flammable liquid storage tanks (such as methanol, ethanol) be connected directly to the atmosphere? ? If it doesn’t work, should it comply with the regulatory provisions? ?
It’s not allowed; regardless of the regulatory requirements, would you dare to design it this way? Not all practices are standardized.
It’s certain that the torch cannot be used; the only option is to vent the gas. Generally, the volume of vaporization isn’t very large, and with a vent pipe placed high enough and a flame arrester installed, there shouldn’t be any problems. The distance between the combustible gas vent and any open-flame equipment meets the required standards
From a process system perspective, gas evacuation from storage tanks is an inevitable occurrence. However, due to the requirements for environmentally friendly and clean production, gas emissions are kept as low as possible; therefore, gas is generally not released directly these days. After equipping the storage tank with a flame arrester and a vent valve, it is connected to the tail treatment system; for cases where the amount of organic gases is low, deep cooling can be used first, followed by absorption using activated carbon before the gas is discharged. The tail gas from the storage tank can be connected to a gas balance pipe of the raw material tanker, thereby transferring the gas within the system to the tanker. Now it is possible to demand zero emissions; although achieving zero emissions is not feasible, measures can be strengthened to reduce emissions.
