For the project we are designing now, there are several pumps with low flow rates, and we would like to know more about vortex pumps – what are their performance characteristics? How is the operation on site? Which are the main manufacturers? Seeking advice from experts
We once had a very small vortex pump, which served as a return pump at the top of the tower; it was used to adjust the liquid level in the circulation tank through backflow. However, the backflow went back to the pump’s inlet, and due to the large fluctuations in the backflow volume, the pump would often get clogged. Later, I changed the point where the backflow went to the inlet of the circulation tank.
We have seven units on site, from the Swiss company EGGER; the pumps have been in use there for one and a half years, and so far they seem to be working fine!
Vortex pumps are widely used, for example in fuel trucks, tankers, and fixed distribution units, to pump volatile liquids (gasoline, kerosene, alcohol); Used in chemical plants and combined enterprises to pump small amounts of liquid over high elevations; used as make-up pumps in urban utility facilities; employed in low-power portable washing equipment and agricultural irrigation systems. It is primarily used in industrial processes such as those in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries to transport acids, bases, and other corrosive and volatile liquids over long distances with low flow rates. It can also be used as fire pumps, boiler feed water pumps, ship supply pumps, and general booster pumps.
