Why isn’t steam purging used in hydrogen systems?

The main concern is corrosion; once a hydrogen-related system is in a wet environment, it can lead to two types of corrosion: one is corrosion caused by polyoxysulfuric acids, and the other is corrosion caused by chloride ions. Even when the system is shut down, steam purging should not be used; generally, it is sufficient to first introduce hydrogen along with oil, and then displace it with nitrogen, so that the levels of hydrogen and hydrocarbons in the system remain below 0.5%.
