Follow-up to the Jiangxi Power Plant accident: 9 people, including the deputy director of Fengcheng’s Industry and Information Technology Commission, arrested

The reporter learned from the People’s Procuratorate of Yichun City, Jiangxi Province, that in addition to the arrests, carried out in accordance with the law earlier, of Yang Feiyun, deputy general manager of Fengcheng Phase II Power Plant, Du Chenggang, chief engineer of the same plant, and Liao Huishou, civil engineering supervisor there, on charges of dereliction of duty, it has been decided following further investigations to arrest Zhang Zhixiang, head of the Power Safety Supervision Department at the Central China Energy Regulatory Bureau, Feng Wei, deputy head of that department, Chen Kaishi, a senior staff member, Mao Weidong, deputy director of Fengcheng City’s Industry and Information Technology Commission, and Liu Hanhui, head of the Bulk Cement Office under the same commission, also on charges of dereliction of duty. Furthermore, the People’s Procuratorate of Yichun City has, following an investigation, decided to arrest Xu Guojun, the manager of Guodian Fengcheng Dingli New Building Materials Co., Ltd., on charges of bribery, and the case is under further processing. To date, the procuratorial authorities have, in accordance with the law, arrested a total of 9 suspects related to the particularly serious accident that occurred at the Fengcheng Power Plant in Jiangxi on November 24. Eight of them are suspected of dereliction of duty, while one is suspected of bribery. On November 24, the construction platform of a cooling tower at the Phase 3 project of the Fengcheng Power Plant in Jiangxi collapsed, resulting in 74 deaths and 2 injuries.
