As the title suggests, I’m seeking help. For example, if the pump’s NPSHa is 10 meters, should the tank at the pump inlet be placed at a height of more than 10 meters? Thank you so much

I know that NPSHA cannot determine the pump installation height. Cavitation occurs when npsha is less than or equal to npshr. NPSHA is the net positive suction head available for the device, while the pump itself has an NPSHR value, which is specified in the manufacturer’s data sheets. It’s difficult to calculate the optimal installation height for a pump. The formula is simple, but it requires a lot of data, which is not readily available to most people. Examples of such data include the pressure at the liquid level at the inlet, the saturated vapor pressure at the operating temperature of the liquid, the resistance in the connecting pipes, and the friction losses associated with the valves. You should be aware that as a reference, the value is obtained by subtracting the pump’s net positive suction head loss npDHR from 10.33, the saturated atmospheric pressure, and then subtracting an additional 1 meter of safety margin. The installation height should be lower than this estimated value, and the inlet pipeline should not be too long. Generally, the inlet liquid level is higher than that of the pump, so no calculation is necessary. Pumps generally have an installation height specified by the pump manufacturer and designer based on the conditions of the installation site. This height cannot be changed arbitrarily, as no one other than the designer is qualified to determine it; doing so would be illegal.
