Why is it necessary to specify that oxygen cylinders, acetylene cylinders, and the location where welding/ignition takes place must be kept at a certain distance from each other during such operations?
Paragraph 5.2.13 of the Safety Regulations for Special Operations in Hazardous Chemical Enterprises stipulates that the distance between oxygen cylinders and acetylene cylinders should be no less than 5 meters, and their distance from the location where welding or cutting operations take place should be no less than 10 meters. There must be a certain distance between the oxygen cylinders, the acetylene cylinders, and the area where welding or heating operations are carried out. This is because, during such operations, the components in the area of welding get heated, and the heat can lead to the creation of new ignition sources. If there is a leak in the acetylene cylinders, it is essential that there are no ignition sources around the leak site, nor any flammable gases near the area where welding is taking place. Therefore, it is required that there be a distance between the acetylene cylinders and the area of welding ; Oxygen is an oxidizer, and the way substances burn in air differs significantly from how they burn in an oxygen-rich environment. An increase in oxygen concentration accelerates the combustion of substances; some materials only become red-hot when heated by a flame, but they react violently in an oxygen-rich environment. Therefore, it is also necessary to keep an appropriate distance between the oxygen tank and the area where welding or burning takes place.
